Linnansaari National Park in the middle of Lake
Haukivesi, a part of greater Saimaa lake complex, represents Finnish lakeland at
its best. With its hundreds of islands and broad open waters it is a paradise
for boaters. The National Park offers possibilities for day trips, as well as
for several days camping and boating holidays.
The National Park was established to conserve the valuable natural features
of the Finnish lakeland, and the beautiful landscape. Sheltered by the islands
lives the most famous inhabitant of Linnansaari - the Saimaa Ringed Seal
(Phoca hispida saimensis). Also one of the densest populations of the
Osprey (Pandion haliaetus) lives in the area. In restored Linnansaari
Croft you can find out about the life in the old times and the slash-and-burn
agriculture. The surroundings of the croft are managed in the traditional ways.
