The hut is located by the upper course of River Pihtijoki (which runs into Lokka Reservoir), on the southern side of the river.

There is no marked trail to the hut. Hut can be reached hiking on foot or skiing. Usage of motor vehicles in areas outside roads is prohibited.

Pihtijoki Open Wilderness Hut is situated in a remote area with limited mobile phone coverage. Pihtijoki as a destination requires strong orienteering and survival skills.

Bring a head torch and a first aid kit.
