Province of
Southern Finland, Uusimaa Region
Municipality of Karjalohja (www.karjalohja.fi, in
Finnish)
Area: 1 sq.km. Established in 1964.
The area is managed by
Metsähallitus.
Karkali Strict Nature Reserve is one of the finest
herb-rich forest areas in Finland. Its landscape has its very own character, as
well in the spring as in the summer and in the autumn. The glory of anemones in
the spring, and the riot of colour on the autumn leaves are beyond compare.
The area of the nature reserve is protected primarily to completely conserve
the natural features, and for scientific research but, unlike strict nature
reserves in general, it is also open for visitors. However, when visiting the
nature reserve and its sights, you are allowed to walk only on the marked
trails, because of the vulnerable natural features of the area which would
otherwise be damaged.
