Opening hours in 2010

4.1. - 14.2. Sun - Thu 9am - 3pm

15.2. - 18.4. Mon - Fri 9am - 4pm, Sat - Sun 9am - 2pm

19.4. - 13.6. Mon - Fri 10am - 4pm

14.6. - 4.8. Mon - Sun 10am - 5pm

5.8. - 29.8. Mon Sun 9am - 4pm

30.8 - 3.10. Mon - Fri 9am - 5pm, Sat - Sun 10am - 4pm

4.10. - 31.12. Mon - Sat 10am - 4pm

Exceptions: All Saints' Day 6.11., Independence Day 6.12. and at Christmas 24.- 26.12. closed.

We reserve the rights to changes.

Entrance

There is no entrance fee. We charge for group tours. Groups should make reservations in advance.

Directions

Pyhätunturi Visitor Centre is located next to the Pyhä holiday resort (www.pyha.fi).

  • From road 4, between Rovaniemi and Sodankylä, turn onto the road to Luosto at Torvinen and Aska and then follow the road to Pyhätunturi.
  • From road 5, between Kemijärvi and Pelkosenniemi, turn onto the road to Pyhätunturi at Vuostimo.
  • There are signposts to the Visitor Centre from the roads.
  • Cars can be left in the Hotel Pyhätunturi parking lot.

Events

  • We arrange a variety of exhibitions and other events (in Finnish).

Permanent Exhibition

  • The Visitor Centre’s permanent exhibition, Down By the Sea, displays how Pyhätunturi fell and the National Park came to be and displays the areas natural features.

AV Programmes

  • From gorges to fells, Pyhä-Luosto National Park presentation, 15 min
  • The film Land of the Peregrine Falcon, which was produced in connection with the Pelkosenniemi-Life Project, describes the mire wilderness of Pelkosenniemi, duration 15 mins
  • The Work of Our Fathers, a series of short films of Kansantieteellinen Filmi Oy from the years 1936-40
  • Back to Nature, duration 15 mins
  • Preserving Heritage Landscapes, duration 15 mins
  • A film about the restoration of bog and mire ecosystems, duration 15 mins
  • The Finnish Arctic, 53 min
  • The Incredible Baltic Sea, 9 min

A WLAN connection is available in the auditorium

The auditorium seats 40 people. Videos are shown on request.

The auditorium can be rented out for 30 € per hour.

Services for Groups

  • Group introduction to the National Park and Metsähallitus and a guided tour of the exhibition, 45 € per hour (or part) per group
    • ‘Getting to Know the National Park’ and a guided tour of the Visitor Centre’s exhibition
    • Lastly, we will watch the National Park’s multimedia presentation about the fell chain
    • Duration approximately 1 hour

Services for the Disabled

  • The exhibition and all services are on one level and are, therefore, suitable for everyone. There is a toilet for the disabled in the building.
  • There are some trails for the disabled in
  • Pyhä-Luosto National Park has trails suitable for the disabled.
  • In the Luiro Mires is the Sokanaava nature trail which is suitable for the disabled.
