Hepoköngäs Nature Reserve was established in the area surrounding one of the Finland’s highest natural waterfall, Hepoköngäs. Located in the magnificent Kainuu hill landscape the waterfall is a popular sight, which is also accessible for disabled.

The river valley is lush and the gorge rugged. Half of the nature reserve is covered by spruce dominated old-growth forest in the shelter of which numerous threatened and rare species thrive.
