The Saariselkä - Kiilopää - Kakslauttanen tourist area has formed along the edge of the fell chain, and it is now an international tourist destination.

Saariselkä offers excellent possibilities for day-trips throughout the year. During summer visitors can hike along hiking trails and nature trail of varying demand or even cycle. In winter the area boasts 250 km of maintained ski trails and for example nature trails are excellent places for trekking in snow shoes. Saariselkä is also a central point from which to set off on long wilderness treks into Urho Kekkonen National Park or Hammastunturi Wilderness Area and alternatively Lake Inarijärvi is a short distance from Saariselkä. A vast variety of services can be found at the Saariselkä tourist resort during all seasons.

Visitors to Saariselkä can become familiar with both Northern Lapland’s and Forest Lapland’s nature. The fells, which are a defining characteristic of the region, are bordered on their north side by spruce forest, which changes to pine forest on the north side of Saariselkä. Fell nature and different vegetation zones are easy to see and experience as they can be found in the immediate vicinity of the Saariselkä tourist resort. Marked trails lead hikers through old pine forest into the fell birch belt and on from there to the treeless fell peaks.
